Falcons' Defense Will Win This Week!

Falcons vs. Cardinals This Week (Predator Vs. Prey) UPDATE!

The Falcons' Defense will win this game...

This week the Falcons' defense really has a chance to get on a roll.
They are facing one of the most inconsistent offenses in the NFL. The numbers for the Arizona offense are quite abysmal from both ends of the spectrum.

By the numbers:

Run Offense: Avg: 76.2 yds/game

Pass Offense: 219.2 yds/game

These stats play well into the hands of the Falcons' defense as they tend to defend the pass much better than they do the run. Not to mention, the current starter at running back is UDFA William Powell. Anyone care to guess how many carries he has had all season? *Crickets* 21. He has only had a total of 28 touches, and he has put the ball on the ground twice. Not a good sign for the Arizona run game. Not to mention, it looks like Spoon is going to make his return this week which will put added pressure on the run and pass game as he is more than solid against both.

The Falcons D also relies on turn-overs to get them off the field a lot especially interceptions. Look who is starting for the Cards...John Skelton. He has 5 INTs in 5 games. He has not thrown a TD in the last two weeks and this is with one of the most dominant WRs in the game on his side. Part of his problem may be that he is on his back half the time...14 sacks in 5 games. Part of that is his fault (he holds the ball for a long time), part of it is a lack-luster offensive line...as is evident by their sad run game.

In the end, I would look for the defense to give up no more than 17 points this week. They will have at least one interception, one fumble recovery, and three sacks.

The Falcons will dominate ToP and will win!

Final Score: 31-17

Update: Spoon is out today. I think this may have some effect on the Falcons' pass defense, but considering the Cards are working with Powell as their starter, the Falcons should be able to drop 5 into coverage without much of an issue to make up for the lack of Spoon.

The only piece of the Cards' passing offense that may benefit are the TEs; however, considering that King and Heap, there top two TEs, only have 19 receptions on the year, I do not see that becoming a large issue either.

  1. So glad to hear Spoon will be back. So we should see the D scoring some points themselves this week.

    Go Defense! Go Defense!
