To Play or not to Play, that is the question...

This is when Smitty makes his money! There are two big questions to be answered today by Smitty:

  1. Who plays today and who sits?
  2. How long do they play?
Here are my answers:

  • Who plays today and who sits?
    • Who Plays:
      • I really think that we need to play this one out for at least a half and a series or two in the second half with the starters depending on what happens in the first half. What do I mean by this? I would like to see the starters get into a rhythm before they are taken out. Additionally, I want to see what adjustments they make after half-time. It is important to use the adjustments just like you would any other game.
      • By doing these things, it will get the Falcons in the right state of mind for the playoffs.
    • Who Sits:
      • William Moore - WillyMo is so important to this defense that it would be advisable to sit him this week; so, he can continue to rest for the next two weeks. By the time the Falcons play next, he should be very ready to play.
      • Assante Samuel - With the rather deep secondary that the Falcons have shown to possess this season, I would suggest sitting Assante for the better part of this game. Resting his ailing shoulder would assure him being 100% for the playoffs. His swagger and strong ball-haking skills are vital to this defense.
      • Roddy White - I would allow Roddy to get about half the snaps that the starters get. We need to get that knee as much rest as possible without getting significant rust on Roddy.
  • How long?
    • I believe that all of the starters save the previously mentioned players should be playing into the second half. The Falcons should play to when this game, but not haphazardly. This game does not mean a great deal. Play the first half as you normally would, make adjustments at HT, and confirm that you can perform to those adjustments in the second half. You play the starters until you (Smitty) are satisfied that the starters have implemented said adjustments.
Whatever choice that Smitty makes, he will be scrutinized if the Falcons lose their first game again in the playoffs; however, this team is quite a bit more mentally tough then Falcons of past seasons. No matter what Smitty does I really see these Falcons making a deep run in the playoffs.

How do the rest of our Serious Falcons' Fans feel about what Smitty should do today?
